Digital Wanderer

A follow-up to the previous post with the statistics. I got one of the tables a bit mixed up there: I wanted to show which bike brands had the best times, but it didn't work out. Here it is (slightly trimmed: I removed the brands represented by only one bike and the end of the table with the worst times).

If you look at it, you can clearly see that only expensive bikes are at the top of the list. So much for athletes and cycle tourists having no need for expensive gear. Obviously, I'm not claiming which is the cause and which is the effect, but there's still a correlation. The results for Univega and Orbea are especially impressive: there are plenty of bikes, and ALL their owners are serious athletes. I'd never even heard of Orbea before. Focus is also surprising: their bikes seem pretty ordinary, yet their owners certainly aren't slow. Though Focus bikes usually have rigid forks, so that may have worked in their favour.

It's nice to see that my Scott isn't so bad either. With a similar number of bikes, only Corratec is ahead of us. Those are also great bikes with unusual geometry; if they were cheaper and sold here, I might have bought one myself.
